The Wider Community
At Kaleide International School we see the school as part of an educational continuum that encompasses the home and the wider community. We want the children to be able to learn outside of the school as much as inside it, and we want the wider community to be involved in the daily life of the school. For this reason, we place great value on field trips, on expert visits to the school, on collaborating with parents, and on establishing connections between children's learning and the real-world.
We want to create an environment in which all life-stages and learnings are represented. At our school, parents are welcome, and help with projects and off-site learning activities. Siblings under 3 years of age, accompanied by a family member, are also welcome to the school on those occasions. This contributes to a sense of continuity between the family and the school, and also sets the foundations for a more empathetic and peaceful environment, as has been shown by the work of Mary Gordon through the Roots of Empathy program in Toronto.
