The School Day
At Kaleide every child will be making decisions on a daily basis in respect of what to learn, how to learn, with whom and when. There is a weekly offer of varied activities which are optional for the most part; tidying up and meetings (for Primary children) are not optional. However, there may be situations (i.e. in the process of working on a project, or the year before a child is going on to Secondary school) when facilitators may deem it necessary for children to acquire certain skills or knowledge and encourage children to learn them through more "conventional" lessons at the school.
Our children can play their own games (we value free play as an essential part of learning!), take part in organised play activities (such as collaborative games) or in workshops (and even impart them). They can propose activities, projects and workshops, or work on provocations created by facilitators.
We organize a monthly outing, either to the forest or to the town centre in La Laguna, in order to visit museums, exhibitions and the beautiful local library. Families are welcome in all of these outings, but they need to inform us in advance.
